Friends of BL: Romy Safiyah

This week we chatted with stylist, Romy Safiyah. Romy is the passionate stylist behind a number of fashion campaigns and runway shows for some pretty big names. Transcending trends, Romy carries a distinctive feel to her projects, creating elegant, nuanced work.
Working on a vast range of styling projects, a few of which have been for Brie Leon, we thought it was time to find out more about Romy's processes, inspirations and what's to come. Here's what she had to say!
How long have you been working as a stylist for & how did you start out?
I've been working as a stylist since 2018, however I really took myself seriously in 2020 when I quit my day job to go freelance full time!

When do you feel most inspired?
When I'm out of my comfort zone, I'm constantly hungry for new things/feelings/experiences that set my senses off and enable my brain to whirr.

What’s your creative process?
for a shoot? I will always begin by culminating references, I think research is key. I track down inspiration that's as close to what's in my head as possible - it might take 10 images to visually explain one 'mood'.

Favourite trend right now?
leg warmers? I can't say no to a functional trend !

Can you tell us more about some of the brands you used to style our pieces with?
The two standouts for me were the beautiful cardigans from Studio Marlene (Melbourne) and the laser cut wool pieces from Sarah Frances George (Sydney) graduate collection

Favourite BL piece from the new collection?
Adore the Samira, with the chain detail !
