RESPONSIBILITY
WHAT WE ARE DOING
At Brie Leon, sustainability isn’t a finish line, it’s a constant evolution.
What began as a commitment to doing better has become the foundation of how we design, produce, and think. Today, every handbag is crafted entirely from recycled or bio-based materials, marking a major step in closing the loop on our sustainability goals.
As we continue to move away from recycled PU, we’re investing in innovative materials that not only reduce impact but also enrich the tactile and emotional experience of our pieces.
Our focus extends beyond materials to the way each element of our product is brought to life. Every detail, from the fabrics to the packaging that carries them, is considered and controlled in-house.
Brie Leon packaging is designed to reflect the same care, refinement, and attention to detail as our products. All packaging is made from FSC-certified, recycled, and compostable materials, aligning with our commitment to sustainability while maintaining a premium and considered feel.
Many of our designs are made using recycled or alternative sustainable materials and this number is increasing each collection. Our aim is to fully eliminate virgin materials for our handbags and only work with ethical or post-consumer recycled fabrics.
RECYCLED LEATHER
Recycled Leather is made by collecting leather offcuts and scraps from the manufacturing process, which are then shredded, bonded with natural or recycled binders, and reformed into a durable material. This process diverts waste from landfill and reduces the environmental impact of traditional leather production.
CACTUS LEATHER
Cactus Leather is a plant-based material made from the mature leaves of the nopal cactus. Grown with minimal water and without pesticides, cactus leather is a sustainable alternative to animal and synthetic leathers. The leaves are harvested without harming the plant, allowing for repeat growth.
RECYCLED PU
Recycled PU is created from a mix of post and pre-consumer polyester and polyurethane (PU). Unused PU and Polyester materials are broken down mechanically. The polymers are reprocessed and mixed with PU to make the new PU material. Recycled PU reduces carbon emissions by using leftovers from textile production that would otherwise be sent to landfill.
CORN LEATHER
Corn Leather is a plant-based material made from non-food industrial corn. The sugars from the corn are fermented to create a bio-based polymer, which is then combined with other eco-friendly ingredients to form a durable and flexible leather alternative. This innovative material offers a lower environmental impact than traditional or synthetic leathers.
APPLE LEATHER
Apple Leather is a bio-based material made using waste from the apple juice industry—primarily apple peels and cores that would otherwise go to landfill. These leftovers are dried, ground, and blended with water-based polyurethane to create a durable, low-impact alternative to traditional leather.
RECYCLED COTTON
Recycled Cotton is crafted from a blend of pre-consumer cotton textiles - offcuts and leftover fabrics from production that would otherwise end up in landfill. By giving the materials a second life, recycled cotton reduces waste and lowers environmental impact.
